Door Games: How Much Should the Groom Pay?

Negotiating for your life (and your wife).

I’ve led high-stakes strategy sessions, but nothing compares to 7:30 AM in a Mid-Levels apartment. The Groom is in a tutu, the bridesmaids are holding a tray of "bitter melon juice," and the ransom is set at a staggering $9,999.

The Art of the Deal:

• The Anchor: The bridesmaids will start at a "Face-saving" high number. It's part of the fun.

• The Counter: The Groom should start at $8.80 (just for the laugh).

• The Final Walkthrough: Always end in an 8 or 9. $888 is respectful; $1,388 is generous; $9,999 is "He’s a Keeper."

Grooms, hide a "Secret Stash" of small $20 red pockets. When the bridesmaids demand more, don't give a big one—give ten small ones. It creates "Visual Wealth" for the photos and buys you time to breathe between the wasabi crackers.
